Sizzle or Fizzle – NFL Week 4

29 September 2023 • by Bryan Oldham

sizzle or fizzle

Welcome to a new article on Rival Fantasy: Sizzle or Fizzle. Every week, we’ll look at some wild fantasy trends and decide if they’ll continue (sizzle) or taper off and turn things around (fizzle).

Keep in mind, we aren’t going to inundate you with stats, nor are we going to do deep dives into these topics. We’re keeping things bite-sized on purpose, so you can get the quick hits and make decisions accordingly. Let’s dive in.

Fizzle: Chris Olave’s Touchdown Woes

This is low-hanging fruit, but we all know Olave is going to score, right? Derek Carr was going to find number 12 for a huge bomb eventually, and Olave can outmaneuver a lot of DBs in the league. Now, Olave managers are staring down a starting QB that has a history of taking massive shots downfield in Jameis Winston, for at least a few weeks. I’m banking on Olave to score, and once he finds paydirt, no more dryspells.

Sizzle: De’Von Achane’s Explosive Plays

Speed Kills, and Achane proved it against the Broncos. Every fantasy player watched in awe as the Dolphins carved up the Denver D for 350 yards on the ground alone. Achane accounted for 203 of those on his own (nearly 60% of the team’s rushing yards). That’s impressive regardless of the blowout.

While Achane shared time with Mostert, Mike McDaniels is all about speed. Achane is a younger RB with sub 4.40 speed, which means he’s going to be on the field more and more. While he won’t rip off 200 ground yards every game, Achane is always one play away.

Fizzle: Josh Jacobs’ Struggles

In the immortal words of Aaron Rodgers, R-E-L-A-X. Jacobs did almost the same thing last year, finishing each of the first 3 weeks with less than 15 fantasy points, two of them under 10 points. The Raiders offense hasn’t inspired much confidence yet, but Jacobs is the cog in the machine that keeps this team churning.

Week 4 presents an opportunity for the Raiders to get right and offensively explode against the Chargers. They’ll have to keep up, and a divisional game always makes fantasy players’ ears perk up. Jacobs will find his way back to fantasy glory sooner than later.
